On International Women’s Day 2026, BPW International joins the global community in recognizing the extraordinary contributions of women to our economies, institutions, and societies. Across the world, women continue to lead businesses, strengthen communities, advance innovation, and build bridges across cultures and nations.
International Women’s Day is not only a celebration of achievements; it is also a moment to reaffirm the fundamental principles of equality, dignity, and shared responsibility upon which peaceful and sustainable societies are built.
This year, however, the commemoration of this day takes place against a backdrop of growing international tensions and the escalating crisis in the Middle East, which is causing deep concern within the global BPW community.
Armed conflict and political instability invariably impose a disproportionate burden on women and girls. Women often become the silent first responders within their families and communities, protecting children, sustaining livelihoods, and preserving social cohesion in times of uncertainty and fear.
BPW International expresses its solidarity with women and families living in regions affected by conflict, including our members and partners in the Middle East and neighboring areas who are currently experiencing the direct impact of this escalating crisis.
On this International Women’s Day, BPW International calls upon the international community to reaffirm its commitment to dialogue, diplomacy, and peaceful solutions to conflict.
Sustainable peace cannot be achieved without the full participation, leadership, and protection of women. Decades of international experience and multilateral policy — including the principles embodied in the global agenda on women, peace, and security — demonstrate that when women are present in decision-making processes, peace agreements are more inclusive, more durable, and more reflective of the needs of society as a whole.
Women are not merely victims of conflict. Women are agents of stability, reconciliation, and reconstruction.
For more than nine decades, BPW International has worked to advance the economic, professional, and leadership empowerment of women. Today, in a world facing multiple geopolitical and social challenges, this mission has become even more essential.
During the current triennium, BPW International has placed Peace Through Empowerment at the center of its global vision. Empowerment is not only a matter of rights; it is also a strategic pathway to stability, cooperation, and long-term peace.
On this International Women’s Day, BPW International therefore reaffirms its commitment:
•
to support the leadership and economic empowerment of women worldwide;
•
to advocate for women’s meaningful participation in decision-making at all levels;
•
to stand in solidarity with women affected by conflict and humanitarian crises;
•
and to promote dialogue and cooperation as the only sustainable path toward peace.
In a time of uncertainty, the voice of women must not be marginalized. It must be heard, respected, and integrated into the decisions that shape our common future.
International Women’s Day reminds us that when women rise, societies advance. When women lead, institutions become stronger. And when women participate fully in shaping our world, peace becomes not only possible, but sustainable.
BPW International remains committed to working with its Federations, partners, and the international community to ensure that the empowerment of women continues to serve as a cornerstone of peace, justice, and sustainable development.
Empowering women is not only justice — it is the foundation of lasting peace
With respect and solidarity,
Diana Barragán Medina
